Representing Discourse is a work-in-progress by John W. Du Bois, based on his graduate course Linguistics 212: Discourse Transcription at UCSB. The following materials from the book manuscript and other sources are made available to provide guidance in the transcription process, and particularly in the use of the Du Bois et al. transcription system. The most recently published version of the Du Bois et al. system can be ordered from the Santa Barbara Papers in Linguistics series (Volume 4, 1992). Other relevant publications include: Du Bois, John W., Stephan Schuetze-Coburn, Susanna Cumming, & Danae Paolino (1993). Outline of discourse transcription. In Jane A. Edwards & Martin D.
